What makes Hawaii so Magical to you?
It's really a simply question but the answers you will get may surprise others. Think about the question the next time you are going through all of your pictures and the answer will appear out of nowhere. It's fun to try and your own opinion will be interesting to others.

Where does one begin?
How about the feeling you get when you first slip into the refreshing ocean water and out of the sun. Sharing a moment snorkeling with a loved one over an undisturbed colorful coral outcropping with a turtle sleeping below it. Raising your head from the bright blue waters to the surface only to see swaying palms and pristine beaches. Snorkeling would have to be #1 on my list as far as finding magic in Hawaii, but there's plenty more ways to experience the bliss this place offers daily.

I would have to totally agree with you on that point. I like watching the passengers load up onto the submarine every morning and wait for the submarine to disappear. Going downstairs to the ABC Store for daily supplies and then going on the beach. Seeing the Torch Runners every evening blowing on the Conch Shells and lighting all the torches along the shore is something you only see in Waikiki. Picture perfect sunsets every evening makes the whole trip worth it. Yes,there is magic in the air...Hawaii.

I agree, though "Seeing the Torch Runners every evening blowing on the Conch Shells and lighting all the torches along the shore" can be seen in different places on most islands. On Maui, Kaanapali Beach has a great sunset ceremony at Black Rock. The torch lighter runs through the complex lighting all the torches, as well as the torches along the way up the cliff and onto Black Rock. Then he cliff dives into the water from the top. Pretty cool stuff!

Hey Ken,
I just bought my tickets yesterday for Oahu and will be there for a month. I will be shopping for a place for the whole tribe. I like the North Shore but the job propects are in Honolulu for my wife. I'm looking at Pearl City and eastward. I fly out of Palm Springs next week. Yahoo!

I finally moved here to Waikiki at the beginning of this year and it's been awesome so far. At times,I still pinch myself and ask myself if I really do live here or is it just a dream. I had one of those moments yesterday while looking up at the Pali Mountains here. I have realized a dream and it's like nothing else matters.
I have to tell you though,this is my first time back to this site since I moved here due to my laptop taking a dive the first month that I moved here. I ended up buying a HP Netbook and seems to work pretty good. I have taken several thousand pictures since I moved here and they are all very good pictures.The quest now is to find that perfect and magical moment and get it onto a memory stick instead of film. What a life!

One of the first things I noticed after finally moving here at the beginning of the year is that there was no more torches,no more torch runners and all the beautiful fountains along Waikiki were turned off. I have made several calls to the city and one by one,I've got them all turned on except the most beautiful one located at the entrance to Kapoilani Beach Park that is called the Wave. It's a man standing on a surfboard. I'm still working on that one, fingers crossed.
Just by chance, I took my kids trick or treating in Hawaii Kai and I started the same time we use to in California which is early compared to here,which is the way it use to be before the invasion and crime that came with it.
The very first house was that of Honolulu's new mayor,Peter Carlisle and his lovely wife, They spoke to us for about 30 minutes and asked about our opinion of Honolulu since we just moved here this year. I informed they about all the calls I've made to the city about the fountains(and the homeless living in them) and the torches and what a difference the torch runners made on tourism here in Waikiki. That it got people out of their rooms and on the streets spending money after the torch runners lit the torches. His wife said she never looked at it that way before but that it made a lot of sense. Now we have torch runners again and the torches are slowly being installed again and hopefully they will go all the way back to the other side of Kapoilani Beach Park again. Mufi should have never messed with a well oiled machine to begin with and would explain why he is no longer in office anywhere. So our new mayor seems to be doing a fantastic job and Waikiki in slowly becoming the greatest city on earth again. I hope everyone starts visiting Waikiki again, I feel the dark years of Mufi's rein is over and a new beginning for Waikiki has just started. You can see example almost daily now and there is a new hope for our city. Thanks Peter!

I like Hawai'i for some of the things you can't do anymore on the mainland or just things that are unique to the islands:
Ride in the back of a pickup truck
Drive on the beach
Bonfire on the beach
Ride a motorcycle without a helmet
See a rainbow just about every day
Catch fresh fish and know that it's probably safe to eat
The Hawaiian culture, which makes Hawai'i more than a just a state
Lu'aus
Hula
Waking up knowing I don't have to dream of where I want to vacation

I have been shopping for a place to buy in Waikiki and finding some really good deals over there. I hope to be over there by the next full moon. I didn't realize that real estate was taking such a big hit over there right now. I've been looking at hundreds of properties in Waikiki and it's been hard to settle on just one property to buy.

It's pretty simple for me to answer: It's home. I have lived all over the world, and seen some amazing things that most people have not...and while all that is fine, nothing compares to the inner peace I feel when home on Oahu. The stress ofthe world melts away whenever I get bakc to Hawaii. We spend 6 months here, and 6 months in California, and when I set foot on Island soil after being away, my tension melts away, and I am happy again. I love Hawaii.
