Ah, so you're starting to figure it out. Hawaii is a wonderful place to live, but it definitely functions completely different from the mainland. It takes a few years to adjust to some of the madness. I think that's why people usually only…

Thanks, that is some helpful info. After visiting the islands many times I thought it was a dream to live there, and maybe some day I might make the move. I don't think that day will come anytime soon though.

Hello Joshua, I wanted to share with everyone my experience in moving to Hawaii. I was the advance party before moving my family over and ended up having some medical issues and had to come back to California last May. It was a mixed blessing of…

Hello Joe, I just flew in yesterday and talk about great weather...Oahu has it! I drove over to some friends house last night and surprised them. I had a wonderful time last night. I'm going camping and fishing this weekend with some friends on…

Hi Joshua, I moved to Oahu last month and I have found that there is still a lot of jobs if you are willing to show up on time and don't do ICE(Meth). If you can pronounce the name of the streets and different Hawaiian names, you can get any…

Molokai is probably the cheapest, but there's not a lot of work there...:) It's a good time to buy real estate, on any of the islands. I have a friend who has been looking to buy a condo on Maui for a couple of years. He found one he…

Hopefully others will contribute, but here's my 2 cents: As far as I know, the Big Island and Oahu are the cheapest (if you can call any of the islands cheap.) Kauai is probably the most expensive with Maui in close second. As far as jobs, you…

Moving To Hawaii

There is a good chance that I will be able to move back to the islands once I graduate next year. My wife has a master's in administration with a human resource concentration and I'll have a BS in photojournalism. Could anyone let me know what island is the best for locals as far as jobs and buying a home goes? Right now we are looking at Maui, but will probably go with the island that is the cheapest to live on where we can still find decent jobs.

About Meb

I'm currently a photojournalism student at Central Michigan University. Before I went back to school I worked as the main staff photographer for the Ironwood Daily Globe for three years in the freezing Mid-West. I first traveled to Hawaii when I was 14-years-old and have been in love with the islands ever since. I try to visit as often as possible and will normally make the trips as cheap as possible by just backpacking around the island and sleeping on the beach. While enjoying paradise, I also hope to pick up a few good shots and I hope you enjoy them. Take only pictures, leave only footprints. Mahalo.
