Just curious, who's putting this on? Is it being run by Hawaii photographers, or is there some out side agency?

See Kaanapali Beach for a map of the area that's off limits.

If you're on property, you should be fine. It's just a shame that they shut this area down. There's going to be a lot of people that want to shoot on the beach during the festival. Maybe you can work something out temporarily.

This is from the DLNR website:
"The area between the
northern boundary of Ka'anapali Beach at
Papakea/Ka'anapali Shores and the southern
boundary at Waihikuli Road, is under the
jurisdiction of the Division of Boating and
Ocean Recreation (DOBOR). Applications for
any commercial permits in this area must
be made to DOBOR and must receive approval
from the Board of Land and Natural
Resources."

Lucky our Maui Photo Festival & Workshops is hosted by the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa. Would love to hear more about the photography restrictions on public property, though. Requiring permits to conduct business on public property is nothing new.

Aloha! I'm very curious about your festival and workshops. I find it a bit ironic that the beach you plan on hosting the first festival in front of is one of the only ones on Maui that is not allowing professional photography anymore.

Love to hear more!
