Over the last couple of years, I've watched the growing shift in advertising from print to web. There's good reason why many of my clients are cutting costs with magazines, brochures, and rack cards while increasing their web budgets.

Approaching your target client before they've left for the island is crucial for most Hawaii businesses these days. With internet advertising and promotion, you're saving all of the cost that goes into printing, as well as attracting your clients well ahead of time.

There are 3 ways to do this:

1. Sponsored listings through Google Adwords, Yahoo's Overture, and/or MSN Ad Center. This can be a costly but immediate way of attracting quality visitors to your site.

2. Advertise on relevant websites where your ideal client spends time. This site is a great spot for just that! Build a free page, and if you'd like far more exposure, we're offering photo links on the right column of every page on this site (thousands of pages and growing!)

3. Hire a professional SEO to help you build up rank in the Search Engines. The problem with this, is that you're likely going to run through a handful of novices that preach they know what to do in order to get at your wallet. Be really careful. Anyone selling SEO at a low rate is probably going to do nothing but add your links to some crappy irrelevant directories. If you do find a good SEO, keep in mind that it's a long and costly journey where you're up against professionals that also seek some of the most competitive keywords on the web.

This is really just the tip of the iceberg, but hopefully it gives some insight on good ways to promote your web presence. ALOHA!

Another way to show your work if you're a Maui photographer and sell prints is to be listed at ArtonMaui.com. It's #1 in Google for most "Maui Artist" terms.

See if it's right for you by checking out the Maui Photographers.

Thanks, Todd. If people ask questions in here, I'll answer them to the best of my knowledge.

This forum is a little slow right now, but once people realize how many people browse through this site, more photographers will join, and more will be added to the site. We're really not worried about it.

After looking at our recent stats, it's obvious that this site is rapidly taking off. Already, it gets more unique visitors per month than most of the high-end, well-ranking photography sites for Hawaii.

Thanks for all your input. I'm certain more will write soon! Aloha!

Aloha Chris,
This makes a lot of sense. I know that you are really busy right now but are you able to help or point members here in the right direction so that they don't get burned? I know that this forum is a little slow but you have really hit your target crowd. This forum is really nice in the fact that you can view a photographer's works before deciding who you want to hire for the special moment or renewing your wedding vows. Keep up the good work!
